Flat Field Test

Establish Baseline:

To set a Baseline value, repeat the test daily, as below, for 3 days.

Average the 9 results.

Keep this Baseline value for all future measurements.

Instructions:

• Set a consitent distance, if variable.
  Collimate to cover the entire detector area without showing any primary field edges (see first picture below left).

• Then tape a 1.0 OR 1.5 mm thick copper sheet onto the exit surface of the x-ray collimator ensuring tape is on the edges NOT in the centre. (see second picture below right)



• Expose through the copper with 80 kV / 16 mAs.

• Repeat exposure to get three images.

• Record the Dose Indicator values for all three images.

• Window and review the image to look for any unusual densities or artefacts. Example of a consistent, artefact free image below.

  

• If any results are out of limits, first check the set up process and repeat the test.

(If there is any change in distance between the detector and the x-ray tube, for example, the dose will be different and so the EI value will be significantly impacted…)

• Contact the medical physics team if there are any aberrant results persisting after you have checked the way the exposure/s were performed.
